Wednesday 28th April 2010, 8pm, City Hall, Cork
This year’s Opening Gala Concert, voices from Cork and Dachau join forces to pay tribute to the legacy of a musical son of both cities: Professor Aloys Fleischmann. The Irish composer, conductor, scholar, campaigner, organiser, professor of music at University College and Freeman of the City of Cork was also the founder of the Cork International Choral Festival in 1954. We are delighted that this year’s Opening Concert should form a part of the yearlong and city wide celebrations to mark Fleischmann’s great contribution to the cultural life of Cork.
This concert is presented by the Fleischmann Choir and the Liedertafel, Dachau, together with the Cork School of Music Symphony Orchestra and French horn solo from Conor Palliser. There is even a role for the audience, as you are invited to raise your voice to take part in Fleischmann’s Song of the Provinces.
