Hailing from Cahersiveen in County Kerry, Irish tenor Dr Gavan Ring studied at the Schola Cantorum at St Finian’s College Mullingar before reading education and music at Dublin City University. An alumnus of the National Opera Studio in London, Gavan is also the first opera singer and the youngest graduate to complete doctoral studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Gavan’s ground-breaking doctoral research on Robert O’Dwyer’s Irish language opera Eithne led to the work's first performance in 107 years. A member of the inaugural Cara O'Sullivan Associate Artist Programme at Cork Opera House, Gavan is also a multiple prize-winner at competitions such as the Wigmore Hall Song Competition and the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino. Gavan lectures in voice at Munster Technological University Cork School of Music. Gavan is also the Artistic Director of Drogheda Classical Music.

Zu den Höhepunkten seiner Konzerttätigkeit zählen Auftritte mit dem London Symphony Orchestra bei den BBC Proms und dem Lucerne Festival unter Sir Simon Rattle, dem Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in der Royal Festival Hall unter Sir Mark Elder und dem Münchner Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester im Prinzregententheater unter Keri Lynn-Wilson. Zu seinen Rezitalauftritten zählen regelmäßige Sendungen auf BBC Radio 3 und RTÉ Lyric FM sowie Auftritte in der Wigmore Hall, beim Oxford Lieder Festival und beim Ludlow English Song Festival, bei denen er mit Pianisten wie Simon Lepper, Graham Johnson, Eugene Asti, Sholto Kynoch und Iain Burnside zusammenarbeitete. Zu seinen Opernhöhepunkten zählen Hauptrollen im Cork Opera House, der Garsington Opera, Glyndebourne, der Irish National Opera, La Monnaie De Munt, der Opéra Royal de Versailles, der Opera Holland Park, der Opera North, der Scottish Opera, der Welsh National Opera und der Wexford Festival Opera.
