Quinnton

Finland

The choir Quinnton is a female choir with around 40 happy lady singers, in the age from 20 to 75. The choir resides in Vaasa, on the west coast of Finland. The choir was founded in 1985, and will thus celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025.

Since 2018, the choir has been conducted by Mrs Monica Heikius, Master of Music and cantor in the Vaasa parish.

The choir has a wide repertoire, ranging from ballads and pop music to sacred music. We sing in several languages: Swedish, Finnish, English, Latin, Germany and occasionally even in French and Italian.

We perform both a capella and accompanied by instrument(s). in town halls and churches mainly in the Vaasa area. We have weekly rehearsals and participate in educational workshops together with other female choirs in Finland 2-3 times a year.

We have approx. 4-5 performances yearly, either with our own concert programme or as part of larger events.

In recent years (after the pandemic), we have performed at the annual Vaasa International choir festival , Christmas and Independence Day concerts in the Vaasa church and in the Finnish-Swedish choir festival in Helsinki. In addition, we have organised our own concerts: Trifolium, a collection of traditional ballads and folk music in modern settings, Spring 2024; Missa Popularis, by Swedish composer Mårten Jansson, Spring 2023; Spatzen Messe by W.A Mozart, Spring 2019.

Next on our agenda is a Friendship concert on Valentine´s Day in February 2025. Thereafter we look forward to head for the Cork Choir Festival.
