Cór Mhagh Ealla is a community choir based in Mallow in North Cork on the banks of the River Blackwater. The choir was established in 2001 on the initiative of the late Peig Russell, a well-known and much loved local patron of the arts. It comprises approximately 56 members with many new voices added this year.
Since its formation the choir has been building its repertoire and participating in choral festivals at home and abroad and has met with numerous successes along the way. Cór Mhagh Ealla welcomed their conductor Susan O'Keeffe in 2021 and are accompanied by Maura McAuliffe on keyboard since 2019. The choir are delighted to have Susan and Maura at its helm. Susan has contributed to local music immensely in North Cork through her teaching of piano and violin where she has passed on the gift of music to countless musicians. She has been responsible for setting up a youth choir in Doneraile who went on to perform at the INEC in Killarney. Maura spent most of her working life teaching music in Mallow where she also taught piano and violin. Her contribution to her hometown Charleville is significant and is highly valued.
The members of Cór Mhagh Ealla love to give enjoyment to others through their performances and in May last year put on a concert for their local town titled 'May Melodies' which was a great success. The programme put in place was modern and inspirational and included an Irish section, a musical section and light opera performing alongside classical tenor Eoin Hynes and their own soprano Ann Linehan.
