Scrubs, CUH Workplace Choir

Korek

Scrubs is a four-part mixed choir of about 50 members, directed by Mr. Patrick D’Alton, represented primarily by hospital staff members who want to unwind after a hard week work by singing in a relaxed and amusing atmosphere.. The choir was formed at Cork University Hospital in 2015 with the aim of competing in the RTE Lyric FM workplace choir competition. The experience was so enjoyable that the choir has stayed together, participating in charity and competitive events, both within and outside the hospital.
Ten years later, the choir has developed a large repertoire of songs and is going from strength to strength with membership from all major departments throughout the large hospital campus, including retirees. The choir have been privileged to perform locally, nationally and internationally. Scrubs performed in Lyric FM’s Workplace Choir competitions in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and was invited to compete at “Britain’s Got Talent” competition in 2017. Scrubs choir performed at the Choral Festival in Vienna in 2018. The choir continued to rehearse via Zoom during the Covid-19 pandemic and made two video recordings during that time. The choir achieved first place in the IBEC Workplace Choir of the Year competition at the Cork International Choral festival in 2022 and in 2023, and third place again in 2024. Scrubs also travelled to Rome in March 2024 to perform at the Rome International Festival of Choirs and Orchestras.
